On the Day:

Greet and direct the Host(s) and guests on arrival
Arrange the Receiving Line and introduce guests
Announce meals
Announce and lead in the Top Table
Announce speakers, toasts and other ceremonies as required
Keep a watchful eye and deal discreetly with any matters that may require attention.
Act as Master of Ceremonies, auctioneer or compère as required and conclude the formalities.
A few thoughts on PA Systems -
Many events do not require a PA System, and, should one be needed, this can often be provided by the venue. If however the venue does not have their own, and you feel that one would be useful to those who are to speak, I am able to provide an excellent portable system at a very modest cost. It can also be used to provide background music from a CD or an IPod, should this be required.
Should you be planning an event in a Marquee, it is strongly recommeded that you do consider having a PA system. Marquees provide virtually no resonance and sound just 'disappears', so those who are to speak may struggle to be heard by those furthest away.
